Risk Factors For Diabetes
Diabetes is one problem that may happen to anyone irrespcetive of their age or gender. However, there are some factors that can put you at a larger likelihood of developing the issue. Let us know these risk factors and how they can make a contribution to the development of diabetes.
As is often known, obesity is a powerful risk factor, particularly for type 2 diabetes. Any fat person has many more likelihood of becoming diabetic than an individual with ordinary Body Mass Index. Excessive fat negatively impacts the insulin levels in human body. As your body weight goes up, the capacity of your insulin has a disposition to decline. This leads to increase in sugar level of your body. You should maintain correct body mass to ensure that you look healthy enough. At the same time it is important to maintain balance and never turn corpulent. For this, make certain you get lots of exercise, at least 30 mins a day would do the job.
If you’re leading a sedentary lifestyle; you are at higher risk of diabetes. If you’re not physically active ; your sugar levels of the blood go on a hike. However, if you are active then the case is opposite. Also it has been observed that the muscle cells are more receptive to insulin compared to the fat cells. Exercise helps to reduce the insulin resistance of the body. This therefore helps to control the sugar levels of the blood and so bring it to a stabilised level. A sedentary lifestyle is also a major factor for the rising trend of obesity. Obesity further increases the possibilities of diabetes manifolds.
Unhealthy eating habits is the biggest reason when it comes to reasons for diabetes. Anybody that eats in an unsuitable manner is more prone to diabetes than a person who is more trained in dieting habits. One unacceptable habit is to eat too much sugar and carbohydrates. Your blood sugar goes up because these products can be digested easily. A standard example is junk food which must be replaced with a more fibrous diet.
Family history and genetics also play a particularly critical role in causing diabetes. If either of the elders or someone in the family is diabetic then the possibilities are strong that you too may be a victim of the problem. African Americans, Hispanic-Americans and indigenous Americans all have a higher than normal rate of type 2 diabetes due to heriditary factors.
There are a few other stuff as well that increase the chances of diabetes. Some of these factors include high cholesterol levels, history of gestational diabetes, age and such like. While some of these risk factors like family history and genetics are unavoidable, there are others that you have command over like your diet and weight. It is in your best interest to manipulate the danger factors you can and avoid the incidence of diabetes in the first place. Naturally, prevention is better than cure.
