Why do I have acne? The age old question

There are two ways that we can answer the question Why do I have acne?. One is to discuss the root cause of acne and the other is to find out way this root cause occurs.

So,now, for the root cause part of the question: Why do I have acne? Acne is caused by hormonal change. It is this hormone change that affects the sebaceous gland in the hair follicle of the skin (you have hair follicles all over the body except for the palms of you hands and the soles of your feet). So, what does the hormone change do to the sebaceous gland to make it cause acne? Well. it makes it produce more of an oil called sebum which gets blocked under the pore and makes the whole follicle swell causing acne symptoms to occur.

Now for a different angle on the question: Why do I have acne? Why do these hormone changes occur. Well there are the obvious times of hormone change such as your teenage years and pregnancy but it can occur at other times too. For example, if you are doing an exercise routine that is designed to add bulk as this can raise the levels of testosterone. Other triggers include, recent decline in diet or a change of oral contraceptive.
